For generations, this hill above Hambantota has looked towards the sea. Today, Rest House Hambantota continues that story with refurbished rooms, generous food, quiet drinks and a setting that invites you to slow down and discover the history, nature and character of the area surrounding you.
Established in 1910 during British Rule in Sri Lanka, Rest Houses were built by them as essential rest areas for their horses during travel around the country. Since then travellers across generations and cultures have been welcomed here.

The Hambantota Rest House has been recently renovated.
Myself and my family was amazed by how it looks like now. It gives an old bungalow type of feeling when you enter the building and you get a beautiful view of the ocean (even from the rooms).
The building was built in 1910 and they have beautifully preserved its old charm. The rooms are very clean and spacious. I was particularly impressed by the washrooms and how clean it was. Its got a lot of space and everything you need from toiletries to even a hair dryer.
They have a variety of food including a chinese and authentic indian menu. The food is also very delicious and very reasonable.
I would easily recommend this hidden gem to anyone and I will definitely be back!

This place has bar and restaurant. Recently restored to heritage character with plenty of mod cons. Fantastic views of the beach. Food price $5 to $7. Large portions Sri Lankan food with a mix of Thai and Chinese fusion. Had lunch and came back for dinner. It has separate bar called the Captain's Bar.

Went to the Hambantota Rest House for dinner last night. We ordered Cheese Naan and Prawns Masala.
Honestly, if I had to describe their Indian menu in one word, it would be Marvellous! The food is very tasty, and it is excellent value for money too.
It would be right to say this has the best Indian menu currently available in Hambantota town.
The staff's service is also very good. A place you can recommend without worry to anyone who loves Indian food!

ඊයේ රෑ Dinner එකට Hambantota Rest House එකට ගියා. අපි Order කළේ Cheese Naan සහ Prawns Masala.
ඇත්තටම එයාලගේ Indian Menu එක නම් එක වචනයෙන් කිව්වොත් Marvellous! කෑම ඉතාම රසයි, ඒ වගේම ගෙවන ගණනට උපරිම වටිනාකමක් (Worth for money) තියෙනවා.
හම්බන්තොට ටවුන් එකේ දැනට තියෙන හොඳම Indian Menu එකක් තියෙන්නේ මෙතන කිව්වොත් නිවැරදියි.
Staff එකේ Service එකත් ගොඩක් හොඳයි. Indian Food වලට ආස අයට බය නැතුව Recommend කරන්න පුළුවන් තැනක්! ❤️👌
